International Shakespeare sensation coming to Rice
Actors From The London Stage to perform 'The Taming of the Shrew'

FROM RICE NEWS STAFF REPORTS

Actors From The London Stage, an international theater troupe based at the University of Notre Dame, will be in residency at Rice University in February.  They will give three performances of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew": Feb. 7, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Hamman Hall.

Admission is $20 for the general public, $15 for senior citizens and Rice faculty and staff, and $10 for all students. Tickets are available in advance by calling 713-348-4005 or visiting http://arts.rice.edu.

One of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies, “The Taming of the Shrew” is perhaps the most popular incarnation of the notorious battle of the sexes. It is a tale of true love and of the clashes that such a love so often beget.

All roles will be played by five veterans of classical theater – Nicola Alexis, Victor Gardener, Andy Greenhalgh, Martin Parr and Louise Yates.

Actors From The London Stage hail from such prestigious theater companies as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, among others.

The troupe's residency is sponsored by the Alan and Shirley Grob Fund for Shakespeare in Performance and is supported by Rice University and the Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts.
