Jan Odegard, executive director of the Ken Kennedy Institute for Information Technology, spoke in May on "Condos, Resorts and Timeshares: A Management Model for Scalable Campus Research Cyberinfrastructure" at the Texas A&M University Supercomputing Facility Annual Users Meeting. Kim Andrews, manager of research computing, also spoke at the event. Odegard is part of the organizing committee for the conference "Developing a Coherent Cyberinfrastructure from Local Campus to National Facilities: Challenges and Strategies" for the Ohio Supercomputer Center.

"Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Solving Elliptic and Parabolic Equations: Theory and Implementation," a book by Béatrice Rivèire, associate professor of computational and applied mathematics, was recently published by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

Ed Galindo, grounds supervisor in Facilities, Engineering & Planning, has been appointed to the certification committee of the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association (TNLA). He'll be one of 11 TNLA members from across the state serving on the committee that administers and promotes the various certification programs sponsored by this professional organization. Galindo, who is a certified landscape technician, Texas certified landscape professional and a master certified nursery and landscape professional, will serve on the committee for two years.

Bill Taylor, chief of the Rice University Police Department, has been installed as the Southwest Region director on the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) Board of Directors. His three-year term began July 1. IACLEA is an association that advances campus public safety for its more than 1,200 educational institution members and 2,200 individual members by providing educational resources, advocacy and professional development services. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to IACLEA over the past year, Taylor received the 2007-2008 President's Award at the association's 50th Anniversary Annual Conference held June 28-July 1, in Hartford, Conn.
