Let the housekeeping games begin!

Competitors from across the city will be going for glory and bragging rights later this month at the Olympics -- the Housekeeping Olympics -- Aug. 16 at the University of Houston.
Three teams from Rice will be among those representing area hospitals, hotels and schools in the annual competition.

Among the events will be a pad toss, dust-mop barrel relay race, toilet-paper toss, push-broom relay, cheerleading routine and pad free throw. Team trophies and individual medals will be awarded to the victors.
Team Green Clean will represent Facilities, Engineering & Planning. Led by Bobby Davis, lead custodian, and Alejandra Rosales, custodian II, the team includes custodians Silvia Zuniga, Sandra Torres, Lena Delgado, Carolyn Brown, James Fowler, Byron Chappell, Luis Solis and Luz Martinez.
Two teams will represent Rice's Housing & Dining. Team HOOTS is led by facilities supervisors Lupe Reyna and Bertha Guerra and includes custodians Jose Romero, Maria Hernandez, Alicia Bravo, Carmen Solis and Rosa Mayen. Team OWLS is led by Moises Romero, facilities supervisor, and includes custodians Alba Marquez, Juventino Gavarrete, Elsa Arguello, Aida Bravo, Francisca Hernandez and Dolores Arroyo, food production associate.
The sixth annual Housekeeping Olympics will be held at the University of Houston's Recreation Center, at the corner of Calhoun Road and Entrance 1 of the university's central campus. The games begin at 8 a.m. and are open to the public.
The Housekeeping Olympics are sponsored by the Houston chapter of the International Executive Housekeepers Association.
