Rice to host National Night Out Oct. 6

The Rice University Police Department will host the annual National Night Out at Rice Stadium, 6100 Main St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday to educate the community on crime-prevention strategies.

The event will feature rock-climbing wall competition, moonwalk, face painting, monster truck display, free food and more. People who donate two nonperishable food items can participate in dunking Rice Police Chief Bill Taylor and Officer Tom Hudak in Dunk-A-Cop.

National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Traditionally held the second Tuesday in August, Texas is holding it in October to take advantage of cooler weather.
