Sun, the wife of Rice President David Leebron, will join fellow recipients Renu Khator, president of the University of Houston and chancellor of the UH System, and Ayaz Nasser, president of the Houston-based Zenith Real Estate Group of America, at the Nov. 12 dinner and program.
It will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Crystal Ballroom at the Rice Lofts, 909 Texas Ave.
Sun is a native of Shanghai who came to America on a full scholarship to Princeton University in 1981 and graduated cum laude in 1985. She earned her law degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1988 and along with her Rice duties is of counsel at the Houston law firm of Yetter Warden & Coleman. She is a trustee at Texas Children's Hospital and a board member of the Asia Society's Houston chapter, Teach For America's regional board, St. John's School and United Way.
The event benefits the UH Law Center's Immigration Clinic, which assists hundreds of immigrants and refugees who would not otherwise have legal representation. The clinic also serves as a teaching laboratory for aspiring lawyers and provides pro bono representation to immigrant victims of domestic violence and refugees seeking asylum before the Immigration Court.
The program also helps U.S. citizens and permanent residents obtain lawful immigration status for family members.
