Rice celebrates homecoming Nov. 13-15

Alumni and friends will descend on campus for parties, lectures, performances and, of course, football Nov. 13-15 for Rice Homecoming and Reunion 2009.
Classes will gather for reunions. Special-interest groups like Rice Engineering Alumni and Friends of Fondren will get together. And the Owls will take to the gridiron against Tulane University Saturday afternoon.

Among the weekend activities will be a Centennial Campaign Lecture Series, featuring Rice professors speaking on topics as diverse as nanotechnology, campus construction, Houston, modern-day pirates and Capt. James Baker. A special lecture will be presented by Rice baseball coach Wayne Graham.
Other highlights of the weekend will be Alumni Evening on the Central Quad, a gallery talk at Rice Art Gallery, the 2009 Cinema Arts Festival Houston at Rice Media Center, the Shepherd School Chamber Music Festival, a production by Rice Theatre, campus tours, open houses and more.
Pregame festivities Saturday will include Tailgate Owley at Rice Stadium, the Alumni Barbecue featuring Goode Company barbecue and the Homecoming Luncheon at Baker Hall. Tickets for the barbecue and luncheon are $15 and $35, respectively, if purchased beforehand. For more information, call 713-348-6094.

Saturday evening, the Rice Program Council and the Centennial Campaign will host the second annual Homecoming Concert in the Central Quad. This year's concert will feature The Wild Moccasins, a Houston-based indie-pop band, at 7:30 p.m. and nationally acclaimed rock band Augustana at 9. Admission is free for all Rice students, staff and alumni with a Rice ID. Food from Freebird's will be available for sale. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Grand Hall, Rice Memorial Center.
