At a ceremony last week, Raymond Brochstein '47, center, and his wife,
Susan, accepted a 2009 IDEAS2 Merit Award recognizing the innovative
design achievements of Rice's Brochstein Pavilion. Larry Flynn,
industry marketing manager for the American Institute of Steel
Construction, presented the award that honors outstanding achievements
in engineering and architecture on structural steel projects around the
country. The pavilion was honored in the category of projects less than
$15 million. The pavilion, which opened in April 2008, has also been
recognized with a Best of 2008 Award from Texas Construction magazine
and a 2009 Merit Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Society
of Landscape Architects.
